Disney World might not be your first thought when you are brain storming destinations for your relaxing or romantic couples trip but I would argue it really should be on your list. If you have only ever visited Disney World as or with children you might not be aware of all the adult and luxury opportunities throughout the resort. If you are planning a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or just a vacation as a couple here are some of the reasons you should be sure to consider Disney World as your destination.
When planning your trip consider planning a day or more to be spent at your hotel, and outside of the parks. There is so much to do, see, and eat throughout the rest of the resort.
Hotels
While there are many more affordable options around the resort if you are looking for a luxury experience you want to stay a one of the deluxe Disney resorts. Each of these resorts has a beautiful theme, deluxe amenities, multiple restaurants, and a fantastic atmosphere. If you want something that feels like classic luxury go for the Grand Floridian. If you want to feel like you have escaped to the South Pacific stay at the Polynesian Resort. To feel like you escaped to the great outdoors check out the Wilderness Lodge. These are just a few of the deluxe resorts you can choose for your trip. Looking to take advantage of a lower price point? Both sides of the Port Orleans resort as well as the tower at Coronado Springs can also offer a great couples atmosphere.
Spent some real time at your resort, enjoy the atmosphere, activities and dining. Make sure to plan to spend some time at the great pools, including slides and whirlpools. You can even lounge at the “beach” at some resorts, though only on the sand not in the water. The Yatch and Beach Clubs have access to Stormalong Bay water area, with a sand pool, lazy river and more.
Some more couples fun to be had at the hotels includes:
- Walking trails
- Shopping
- Horse drawn carriage rides at Port Orleans & Wilderness Lodge,
- Surry bike rides at the Boardwalk Inn & Port Orleans.
- Port Orleans French Quarter, Riviera Resort, The All Star Resorts, Old Key West, Coronado Springs, Saratoga Springs, Yacht and Beach Club and the Boardwalk Resort all offer weekly morning fun runs.
- Animal Kingdom lodge offers a Nighttime safari tour and a daylight safari and dinner package.
- If you are celebrating a special occasion you can order special in room gifts and celebrations, including flowers, decorations, gifts, and treats. Orders can be placed through Disney Floral and Gifts.
So MUCH Good Food
Of course you will want to make sure you have plenty of places to eat while on your trip. Food can be a huge part of a vacation for many couples. Disney World has every kind of dining experience you could want.
If you are looking for something higher end visit any of the many signature restaurants throughout property. Many of them are even located at the various deluxe hotels. If you want the best of the best plan to visit Victoria & Albert’s at the Grand Floridian. Victoria & Albert’s is one of the finest restaurants in the Southeast and year after year receives high ratings and reviews. It is a truly elegant experience where they even have a chef’s table option and there is a dress code so come prepared.
Another signature dining romantic option is California Grill at the top of the Contemporary where you can dine with a fantastic view of Magic Kingdom and even catch a viewing of the fireworks. If you have an early dinner or a lunch you can also return later for fireworks views, or spend time at the bar while you wait for fireworks.
Many of the hotels also offer room service, especially nice if you have a theme park view room where you can watch fireworks.
If you prefer a show with dinner consider the raucous Hoop De Doo Review at the Ft. Wilderness Campgrounds.
There are also dozens of not signature restaurants throughout the parks and resorts, you name a food style and it is available to you. If you want something quicker each resort has a counter service location and they are also found throughout the parks.
If you want to snack your way around Disney World there are so many classic options like Mickey ice cream bars, Mickey pretzels, churros, Dole Whip, candy apples, turkey legs and so much more.
Another fantastic food experience are the EPCOT festivals, specifically the fall Food and Wine Festival. Each festival has booths sprinkled around World Showcase where you can sample a variety of special foods and beverages. These festivals and big crowd pleasers and if you like to sample new foods or drinks these are a must do.
Bars and Nightlife
If you want to enjoy some night life or drinks during your trip there are many options.
Disney Springs is home to many bars and lounges plus The Edison and House of Blues sometimes have live entertainment. You can also take in a Cirque Du Soleil show or visit the movie theatre. While you are at Disney Springs take the opportunity to shop, including some higher end brands. You can even take a trip up in a hot air balloon, go bowling, or take a ride on the lake in one of the amphicars by the Boathouse.
All of the hotels have at least one bar by the pool, but the moderates and deluxes also have indoor bars and lounges. You can even do your own monorail “bar crawl” between Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and hilarious tiki bar at the Polynesian Resort, Be Our Guest the live action Beauty and the Beast themed bar at the Grand Floridian, and the Top of the World Lounge at the Contemporary.
There is plenty to do on the Boardwalk at night as well. If you are in the mood to dance check out the Atlantic Dance Hall at the Boardwalk Inn where a DJ plays top 40 and you can dance the night away. For some musical entertainment check out Jellyrolls on the Boardwalk a dueling piano bar. Plus check out the AbracadaBar a magically themed bar and lounge.
In The Parks
We can’t forget about all the fun couples time you can spend in the parks. It can be so fun to just enjoy the sheer joy and magic in the parks and to be able to hug Mickey Mouse and be a kid again. Enjoy the rides, shows, characters, and all the fun there is to be had in the parks.
EPCOT is a fantastic park for couples. Just take your time with a stroll around World Showcase and visit each country and really look around at all the opportunities for entertainment. There is so much shopping, dining, displays, movie attractions, and a few rides.
At night enjoy all of the night time spectaculars, and later park hours that often mean shorter wait times.
Disney After Hours is a special ticketed event with small caps on attendance which means short wait times. There is also special entertainment and food during the After Hours events.
Take advantage of some of the tours that are offered. Either in the parks with such tour that focus on the history of Disney World, go behind the scenes, see the Magic Kingdom trains up close and personal, or have a guided tour of the EPCOT green houses in Living with the Land.
If you are interested in animals, both Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge offer safari’s or behind the scenes animal tours. At Epcot’s Living Seas you can even swim with dolphins.
And Don’t Forget!

- Golf – Disney World is home to two full golf courses a great additional for golfers.
- Spas – There are several full service spas at Disney hotels a great relaxing addition. Visit Senses at the Grand Floridian or Saratoga Springs or visit the Mandara Spa at the Dolphin Resort.

- Watercraft – You can rent watercraft and pilot your own expedition onto the Seven Seas Lagoon from various marinas
- Another option is to sign up for a ride on a private “cruise” on one of the Disney boats, you can even take a fireworks cruise.
